Our Options

What are out options?

The top leaders have been put under house arrest for 90 days. We fall back upon leaders that have gone underground, people like Bamdev Gautam and Ram Sharan Mahat, and upon the second rung leaders. Those who have gone underground should stay underground. The student leaders will now have to play an important role.

A daylong curfew has been imposed. I don't think there is any point in organizing a traditional protest rally. We have to now organize one decisive protest.

We do not resort to violence. That is out of question. A struggle for democracy can not be autocratic. Similarly the quest for peace has to stick to non-violence.

But we do have to outorganize this regime.

How?

Plan this one decisive protest rally in Kathmandu. The day should not be made public. We should know we have 500,000 people with us before we even step out.

The idea should be to gather 500,000 people out in Kathmandu. The crowd should get there and stay there until the king steps down, period. Don't throw stones at the police. Go up to the police line and just stay put.

But before that we have to engage in massive pamphleteering. We have to get the country to come behind a two word slogan: Democratic Republic. The time for niceties are passe.

लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नै किन?

Democracy does not mean disorganization.

We have no time to lose. We should ride this wave of public discontent that has been created by this unnatural curfew.

We should get better organized. We should sharpen our message. We should put in greater effort. We should get more people to contribute. The diaspora needs to pitch in big time. The diaspora should pour in some major money now.

I keep coming back to this one word: organization.

Why did we not foresee the curfew? The arrests? Why did more people not go underground? What is our Plan B? Do we have a rally slated for the following day?
