Arzuji. Absolutely.

Hope we can move on to debate, dialogue and voting and away from
street action. A lot of thorny issues remain. We just have to make
sure we end with an assembly that "looks" like Nepal in terms of its
ethnic and gender composition. Work remains.

True the Maghe Kranti was not neat and clean. But neither was the
April Revolution.

I myself have always disapproved of violent ways, and you fully know
that. But then Gandhi once said, if it is between an oppressed people
not protesting at all and protesting violently, I would rather they
protested violently!

I hope now the government brings the two JTMM factions to the table.
And the MJF, of course. That is crucial to the election process.

Also, it is important to me that at least 1/3rd of the members of the
constituent assembly are women, of which 2/3rd are Dalit, Madhesi,
Janajati women. I hope all parties put into effect what is already
law.

Thanks for reaching out. It is always nice to hear from you.

Hello to Pradhan Mantriji. And Bimalji, and the rest of your camp!

Once in a while I call up the junior Deuba here in Long Island.
Although I must admit meeting in person has been rare. It is called
chasing the dollar!

Dear all

Congratulations to all of us on auspicious occasion of moving one step
further in the direction of establishing inclusive democracy in Nepal.

I agree with Pushkarji. It is definitely a victory for Nepalis in particular
and mankind at larger. Its a victory over fuedal thinking, skewd mentality
and myopic vision of development. It is a win win situation for all nepalis
who worries about nation instead of indivdual. Losers are the uni nuclii
governance system in highly diverse society.

It is a great victory, however, it is just a point of departure. the civil
society have to watch the implementation part of this proclaimation. History
shows Nepal is very poor in implementation of its development policies,
rules and regulation. Lets join hand to turn the trend other way around and
create new history. No other occassion could be better.

I wish the trend set up by the revolution II to overturn all the impediments
to achieve prosperity in Nepal will continue for
ever.........................

Dear All
I'm with my millions of friends are happy : 49% seats But some people are still doing nuisance Let's demoralise THEM unitedly
Dr Khadka

Dear Prakash-ji, Puskhar-ji and the Forum members,

Whatever words are used to describe the success of the “Terai Andolan”, it is definitely a victory over the defective governance and century-long oppressive forces in Nepal. This great transformation is not only beneficial for Terai but also is a great lessons for the transformation of other ethnic minorities and other neglected regions, where the nation is governed with political motives to exercise the power or so call “Kursi”. I fully agree with Puskhar-ji and I got from his statement that the losers are the oppressive attitudes and the defective system, which is obvious. May be it is not a time to say it victory, because we still have to see how the promises are kept and decisions are implemented. Then, I would agree with Prakashji that the use of term “victory” is not appropriate.

The fact in addressing ethnic demands and issues with democratic sincerity and in an inclusive manner was inevitable than the vision of the current government. Well, this is not the end though, there is many more to be accomplished in future to create excellent environment for good governance and political transparency in Nepal, but my argument is not seeking any night-day solutions. There have been many declarations and proclamations made since the success of Jana Andolan-II; now the biggest challenges are to implement those decisions and manage the changes.

Namaste,

Netra Bhandari

Dear Paramendra Ji,

I gave you actual data of Madhesi Population that data collected review of various statistical books and you flashed on Madhesi Media (source: Dr. Shree Govind Shah). There are still more data of madhesi population overall inhabitant in the country. Now the question arises delineation of constituencies, administrative norm of state, equity share of public service commission, police and army recruitment, universities in the Madhesh, economic turn of madhesh, environment and security of madhesh (most of barrel of gun with the hand of Pahadi), education system of madhesh- IT, Agriculture, Industry, Health, Manpower development etc. If we follow the US education system then Madhesh will be fast growing with the self sufficiency. It is no matter our interpreting language is Hindi but education system might be American. We are credential to the international supports- US, India, UN, Germany, Human Rights and international medias especially madhesi martyrs and unity of all madhesi. I am afraid of madesh security and environment. We need more international support. I hope to get you more points. Pahadi always dual nature how do play trick sometimes unvisible.

I am happy with this posting. We ahve to now capitalize on this achievement and build a new inclusive Nepal. Hope your efforts will continue.

Dear Bindeshwar ji and all other colleagues :

Please donot pay attention to such expression. I am glad that she has openly said this. I am sure there are others who share this undemocratic and backward and sick thinking. She reflects the attitude that has catalyzed the descriminatory politics in Nepal. Days are gone when we madheshis were treated like animals. I donot condone violence, but then eveybody is not educated like me, not well - off like me. I do understand the importance of Satyagraha, but we donot have that quality of leadership on both sides of issue. Minister Tripathi has aptly said that mobilization of army in Madhesh will break the country. I am very sure that the present government and parties will not support it. I will write more on some other time. This is time to test political water - level ; you know what I mean. Take care.

sorry, I think the first message had some error

Dear all

The “Terai revolt “ has achieved a milestone, after PM’s address to the nation. This is the first time that a revolt outside Kathmandu has forced the state to bow down. We all should rejoice this moment. I am expressing my view to start a discussion which will be very helpful for the country in coming days.

I welcome the PM’s address to the nation. It has ,in principle , agreed to the just demands of madhesis at the moment. Now its time for us to give it a helping hand irrespective of our origins (Pahade or Madhise). We should realize that centuries of misdeeds can not be corrected in a day or in a moment, neither we can change mindsets overnight. Our pahare brothers and sister should accommodate and adapt themselves with the changed political scenario to save this nation from disintegration. I am not using the word “disintegration” to bully anybody but to persuade them to confirm with political reality. The first task before them is to show support to the just demands of Madhesi populace and convince themselves that we still can live in harmony. They have to prove that as a class, they are going to change their attitude towards Madhesi.

We, as madhesi have more difficult task than that. The first task is that we should keep our unity intact as reflected during this revolt. For that we have to start thinking about internal discrimination among madhesis and how we are going to solve it once we are in power or we get “home rule”. This is one aspect that has been neglected for long and it may prove fatal for our unity during elections and deliberations of constituent assembly. We have to think about language planning for the soon to be created Madhesh state.

In short term, madhesi intellectuals have to play a pivotal role in guiding our politicians in right direction. We have to put forward our case “ sampoorna madhesh : EK Pradesh” in a logical way to convince others who don’t see any similarity between Tharus of kailali and Yadavs Of siraha. I understand that we can easily feel it but those who are not familiar with terai culture find it difficult to comprehend.

Having said that, I still feel the need to be cautious because there is possibility of betrayal. To thwart that effort, the agitating political formations should stop aggressive protests for a while and should seat on the negotiating table. The most important thing is to convince Jantantrik terai Morcha to announce unilateral ceasefire. Madhesi intellectuals and politicians should try to convince them. If nothing happens during negotiations, we have our “natural right to rebel”, intact with us.

The government and 8 party should announce the modalities of implementation of PM’s address as soon as possible. They should declare those killed during this revolt as martyrs and a concrete package of relief should be announced. Parliament should start deliberation on this issue tomorrow. MPRF and both the factions of JTM should be invited for talks formally and all the channels have to be used for this purpose. Resignation of home minister should be left to his own conscience but a powerful commission with equal representation from madhesi community should be formed to investigate into brutal killings by police during this movement and those found guilty, including politicians and ministers should be punished . Those people who have been displaced during this revolt should be rehabilitated and politicians elected from terai should go to districts to create an atmosphere of communal harmony. Participation in soon to be formed interim government should be just and confirm to the assurances expressed in PM’s address.

I am writing this mail within hours after PM’s address. I may not be right but we should start a healthy discussion. Just click “reply to all” button to take part in the discussion. I am sending this mail to a group of friends, if you don’t like such mails. Don’t hesitate to inform me.

Dear friends,

Thanks for the email reply.I am at present in USA.But i agree with you
all.The intentional political , social, economical segregation of Madhesi by
government or whoever has to come an end and i think it's high time for
it.There should be one Nepal but not at the cost of discrimination of
Madhesi by any excuses.
So, let's wish and try for the best of real Nepal not at present's biased
Nepal.

Just keep it up.

DrR.P.Chaudhary

Hi there,
I don't know how i got into this blog mailing list, but please remove me ASAP.
Thanks.

The pessimist sees his glass as half empty.
An optimist sees his glass as half full.
The opportunist, on the other hand, simply seizes the chance to quench his thirst.

Did you notice that Director of NHRC who is throwing vile against Madesh Revolution is a bahun as well?

Did you see a recent report that exposed the facts that Bahuns have 900% more "sarkari" jobs than Newars and 300% more "sarkari" jobs than Chetris? The Janajatis and Madesh Basi do not even come anywhere close to Bahuns monopoly in these state sponsored jobs?

I do not know what to make of these facts. They can not be just by chance. Is there a time-age evil process in place and heniously protected process to ensure Bahun supremacy in South Asia for the last 10,000 years?

I am baffled, puzzled and without any words !!!!!!!!!

Paramendra dai:

I see you're on the panel at the New School. Just wanted to wish you all the best. I know you will speak your mind candidly and professionally.

Ashok dai (Prof. Ashok Gurung) was my advisor at Columbia. Please give him my warmest regards.

Cheers,
Dipta

Unbelievable.
I will be there

Dear Mr Bhagat

Congratulation for Madheshi win.But its Madheshi to use in future by throwing Pahadi from Terai in contitution election. Its high time to unite all Party of Madheshi to make the Madheshi Priminister in Nepal.

Dr Khadka

Dear all
It is our partial victory.Something is better than nothing. We haven't given up but it is just a coma for 10 days.We are going for the table talk now and the remaining will be discussed there. The address of the PM Giraja was not a complete one as we expected but just the gate has been opened. We have one step further to win the battle completely and we are heading towards the full victory. We know we will not be looser now. They bended their knee even after excessive use of force and brutal killing of madhesi people using dangerous firearms.
I would like to thank and congratulate all our friends in country and abroad for aspitation, motivation and the help they have provided to us.

Hi all

We have created a new website of nagarkot. Hope you people will like it.
check it out:
www.nagarkothotels.blogspot.com

The decision to cancel the rally is here:
http://demrepubnepal.blogspot.com/2007/02/february-10-new-school-madhesi-question.html

And one question. Do I get a podium to speak?

fyi..

"Madheshi revolution has contributed to the quality of democracy in two
ways: 1. It has attempted to bring the concept of "equal representation and
equal opportunity to all" that is the core of any democratic institution but
was lacking in Nepal, and 2. Madheshi's have also dared to tackle the Moist
bull by its horns and succeeded in subduing it"

-- Great points, ram uncle! the success of madhesi movement also highlights
the age-old fact that "ethno-nationalism" is more subtle human emotion that
the lofty ideals of marxism/maoism. For simple reason: idealogy only
stimulates the parts of mind whereas ethnic sentiments are far deeper.
Wonder why the former soviet union disintegrated into multitude of countries
formed along the ethnic lines not too long after the communist idealogy
subsided in the union?

-joy and peace,
