Girija Koirala has declared this movement has to be concluded before the monsoon sets in. I could not agree more. The commander himself has spoken, and he has made a very practical point. A decisive mass protest has to be waged, and an interim government formed.
But let it be absolutely clear that this movement will go on for as long as it might take. If the monsoon rains start pouring down, and this autocratic regime has not fallen, this movement will go through the monsoon. It will go through Dashain, Tihar and Chhath if need be. It will go through yet another winter. It will go through economic sanctions if those be imposed by the external powers. This movement will be waged for as long as it might take because there can be no compromise on principle.
But the goal has to be to successfully conclude it before the monsoon sets in. It is doable.
Kamal Thapa
This loudmouth has a bleak future. He is already out and about issuing warnings. He is working to thwart the mass protests. He is the one who ordered the shooting during the tamasha municipal polls that gave this peaceful movement its first martyr. If he keeps going down that path, one of the first acts of the interim democratic government will be to arrest this guy and throw him behind bars. Actions have repurcussions. He has to watch out. He should not get himself into a tight corner, if he has the slightest sense of his own well-being.
UN Human Rights Council
The formation of the Council his a big day for Nepal since Nepal is the leading country when it comes to human rights abuses. Nepal has to be made an issue both with the Human Rights Council, and with the UN Security Council itself. It is for the civil society, the seven party alliance and the Nepali diaspora to lobby.

Fundraising Mechanism
The 1990 movement made the Nepali diaspora possible. Today so many Nepalis are abroad, making money, going to good schools, working for top companies. Democracy made all that possible. Before 1990, it was so hard for average Nepalis to get passports.
The 1990 movement gave birth to Kantipur, and to the various media houses in general. Now Kantipur and others are paying back their dues to democracy. The diaspora needs to do the same thing. Put your money where your mouth is. Now is the time to pump some serious money into the movement. For that we need to develop and implement a mechanism. Early drafts are being circulated.
Roadmap
We need a clear roadmap. The seven party alliance has to imagine every possibl scenario that might arise during the course of the movement. We need a plan for each scenario.
Safe Houses, Instant Messengers, Satellite Phones
Leaders like Girija Koirala and Madhav Nepal could not go underground. Or maybe they could. But if we feel the king, Kamal Thapa and other members of the king's gang might try a repeat of January 20, we have to have a plan B. I think about 50 top organizers from the seven party alliance should go underground for the decisive phase of the movement.
For that we would need safe houses. And I suggest we use voice chat over instant messengers like Google Talk and MSN Messenger. And we use satellite phones. That would be plan B for if they cut off our telephone lines.
