"Rohan Chaudhari, a 17-year-old secondary school student, was shot dead in front of this building. In media reports published at the time, the authorities claimed that the police had resorted to live ammunition because a mob was attacking the judge’s residence.[54] At the time of his death, Rohan Chaudhari was returning from a private tuition class, carrying a bag of school books.

A young man who was a few year’s senior to Rohan Chaudhari at the same school saw him shortly before he died: “The last time I talked to him he said he was just coming back from tuition, and I told him not to go home now but to stay in my house.”[55] Chaudhari at first accepted the offer, but then decided to continue home by what was deemed to be a safe route. He was shot dead shortly after he left the house. According to doctors at the district hospital, he was shot from the front in the right side of his chest.[56]
